Second Street Project Update: Construction Begins Soon

Staff Report / Bendlocal.org

The City of Bend has announced updates regarding the Second Street Project, which is part of the Midtown Crossings Projects. The project includes the replacement of aging water lines and improvements to the Second Street corridor to align with current urban standards. Specific enhancements include wider sidewalks, the planting of street trees, and the addition of curb extensions to improve safety and convenience for biking, walking, and rolling between Franklin Avenue and Greenwood Avenue.

During the Bend City Council and Bend Urban Renewal Agency meeting on October 16, funding for the final phase of the project was approved. The replacement of the water lines has been completed, and reconstruction of Second Street is set to begin on October 21. Construction will occur on one side of the street at a time to minimize traffic disruptions. Work will start on the east side, while the west side will remain open for southbound traffic from Greenwood to Franklin. Access to local businesses will be maintained throughout the construction process.

Residents and visitors are advised to use caution, avoid active construction areas, and adhere to posted signs and instructions from flaggers. For more details on the project and updates, including detour maps, visit bendoregon.gov/midtowncrossings.
