ATCEMS Rescue Medics Train for Swiftwater Flooding

Austin-Travis County EMS Rescue Medics said they train for flooding events and swiftwater rescues “constantly.” The agency reported that last week, five members of its Special Operations Rescue Team attended the annual IWARP training conference in South Bend, Indiana.

ATCEMS said the conference focuses on advancing technical rescue skills, leadership development, and team performance in the swiftwater rescue environment. The agency said the training helps its personnel respond safely and effectively to complex water rescue incidents.

ATCEMS said its boat teams are currently deployed locally and statewide for flooding events. The agency also urged residents to heed warnings, stay weather aware, never drive through closed low water crossings, and avoid unnecessary travel.

ATCEMS named the medics pictured as Clinical Specialist Thompson, Clinical Specialist Lopez, Captain Cabrera, Captain Copland, and Captain Lines.
