SJSU Hosts AI Book Launch, Questions Tech Hype

San Jose State University is hosting a book launch and conversation on the topic of artificial intelligence. The event will take place at the SJSU Digital Humanities Center in San Jose, California. Attendees are invited to join over coffee during the launch of THE AI CON: How To Fight Big Tech's Hype and Create the Future We Want, published by Harper.

Dr. Emily M. Bender, Professor of Linguistics at the University of Washington, and Dr. Alex Hanna, Director of Research at the Distributed AI Research Institute, will present their work. The book examines current perspectives on artificial intelligence and presents arguments against exaggerated claims. The discussion will feature Rhonda Holberton, Chair of the Department of Art & Art History and a faculty member in Digital Media Arts at San Jose State University.

The event is organized in collaboration with several university departments and external partners, including the SJSU Department of Humanities and the School of Information's Master of Archives and Records Administration program. The conversation will cover topics such as the use of AI in government, law, healthcare, journalism, and art, and address concerns about the promises made about the technology.
