Fort Worth man charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon
Fort Worth police arrested a 49-year-old man on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a disturbance at a business on Ridgmar Blvd. in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 4, 2026.
Officers responded to a "Person with a Weapon" call at a business in the 2000 block of Ridgmar Blvd. The suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Scott Bender, had been involved in a disturbance inside the establishment and was asked to leave. Shortly after, the suspect returned armed with a rifle and confronted an employee outside the location, pointing the rifle directly at the employee and causing him to fear for his life.
Later that evening, officers with the Directed Response Unit located the suspect at a nearby restaurant and took him into custody during a high-risk stop. Officers recovered an AR-style pistol from the suspect's vehicle.
The suspect was transported to the Fort Worth City Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Case number 260024644 was assigned to the incident.
The Fort Worth Police Department said the arrest demonstrates coordinated teamwork between responding officers and investigative units to quickly identify and safely apprehend a dangerous suspect: "This is a great example of coordinated teamwork between responding officers and investigative units to quickly identify and safely apprehend a dangerous suspect."
The department also said it will not tolerate reckless or dangerous behavior with firearms and that those who act irresponsibly will be held accountable.
