Bend Promotes Heart Health Through CPR Training

Staff Report / Bendlocal.org

**Bend Leads the Way in Heart Health with HEARTsafe Initiatives**

Bend, Oregon is earning recognition as a HEARTsafe community, making it an exceptional place to be during a cardiac emergency. According to reports from Bend Fire & Rescue, cardiac incidents can occur at any time or place—whether on hiking trails, ski slopes, or right in local neighborhoods. Thankfully, Bend is committed to equipping its residents with lifesaving skills.

Bend Fire & Rescue offers free hands-only CPR training to members of the community. These classes are available on the first Wednesday of every month, giving residents the opportunity to learn how to step in and assist during emergencies. For those interested, information and registration can be found at bendoregon.gov/HEARTsafe.

Additionally, the community is encouraged to participate in public safety efforts by downloading the PulsePoint app. This app notifies users of nearby cardiac emergencies, allowing trained individuals to respond quickly by either bringing an AED (automated external defibrillator) or performing CPR while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

Bend Fire & Rescue’s initiatives are empowering the Bend community to save lives, proving how essential preparation and response are in emergency situations.
