Bend Fire Promotes HEARTsafe During American Heart Month

**Bend Fire & Rescue Leads HEARTsafe Initiative for American Heart Month**
Bend, OR—In recognition of American Heart Month, Bend Fire & Rescue has launched a new initiative aimed at creating a HEARTsafe community by improving preparedness for sudden cardiac arrest. The department announced efforts to promote early CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) as critical steps in increasing survival rates for cardiac emergencies.
As part of the HEARTsafe initiative, Bend Fire & Rescue is urging residents to contribute to the creation of a comprehensive map of AED locations throughout Bend. Community members can register AED devices they know of at [aedregistry.pulsepoint.org](https://aedregistry.pulsepoint.org). Additionally, the department is collaborating with the PulsePoint app, which notifies users of nearby emergencies and guides them to respond by either delivering a registered AED or performing CPR.
Residents are encouraged to download the PulsePoint app to stay informed and potentially assist with lifesaving measures during emergencies. For more information on how to participate and additional steps to help make Bend HEARTsafe, visit the program's webpage at [bendoregon.gov/HEARTsafe](https://bendoregon.gov/HEARTsafe).
Bend Fire & Rescue emphasized that quick action during a cardiac event can mean the difference between life and death. They continue to advocate for awareness and community involvement to make Bend a safer place for residents and visitors alike.
