**First Black History & Culture Quiz Bowl Hosted by Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School**
Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School's Engineering & IT Academy in Apex, North Carolina, hosted its inaugural Black History & Culture Quiz Bowl to honor and celebrate Black History Month. The event, held in a Jeopardy-style format, invited five teams of students to compete for an array of prizes, thanks to sponsorships from RTP NSBE, civil engineering firm McAdams, Collins Aerospace, and NetApp RTP.
Teacher Cynthia Hill expressed pride in the students' performance. "I was so impressed by the phenomenal job done by our scholars, which highlighted their amazing hard work, dedication, and academic abilities," she shared.
The quiz was hosted by Chaz Holder, a National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) representative and a member of the Academy's Engineering & IT Advisory Board. Chaz, an avid fan of trivia games, spearheaded the event. “Not everyone gets a chance to be on a game show,” he noted. "The students are able to have something of that experience, learn some history and information they and even their parents or teachers may not have known, and get some cool prizes for it!"
Thanks to the event's sponsors, the winning team was awarded several high-quality items, including a TI-36x Pro scientific calculator, a wireless computer mouse, a USB docking station, a secure backpack with charging access, a computer/phone projector, a Collins Aerospace-branded swag package, and a Visa gift card. All participants received prizes as recognition for their achievements.
Event organizers and participants are already looking forward to hosting the Black History & Culture Quiz Bowl again in 2026, with plans to make it a recurring celebration in the years to come.
