City Councilor Ariel Mendez has been serving the City of Bend since January 2022. In addition to his role on the council, Mendez teaches political science at OSU-Cascades and coaches youth soccer. He also emphasizes his commitment to being a dedicated father.

Originally, Mendez worked as a barista during high school, a job that required early mornings but provided good pay and enjoyment.

Mendez shared insights about his role as a City Councilor, stating that the council is committed to being effective and responsive to the community. Although he often cannot reply to emails personally, he assures that he reads them.

In terms of personal interests, Mendez enjoys ice cream, good coffee, and home theater speakers—this interest is notable as he has a hearing impairment and uses hearing aids.

Mendez expressed his greatest hope for Bend, which includes creating a safe environment for children to walk or bike to school, ensuring older adults can navigate the city independently, and making living in Bend affordable for those who work there. He believes it is important to maintain the quality of life in Bend.
