Bend-La Pine Schools in Bend, Oregon has appointed Paul Dean as its new Chief Operations Officer, effective July 1. Dean takes over for Terry Cashman, who has retired, and will take on added executive responsibilities. As the COO, Dean will supervise Transportation, Facilities and Maintenance, Custodial and Sustainability, Information Technology, and School Safety to ensure the district's day-to-day operations run smoothly in serving students, staff, and the community.

Superintendent Steve Cook praised Dean's background as a former building leader and his four years of experience in the district's operational processes, noting Dean's ability to form strong relationships and create environments that support student and staff well-being. Dean, who has been with the school district for 19 years, previously served as the Human Resources Director of Workforce Relations. In his prior roles, he oversaw efforts to implement COVID-19 mitigation strategies and transition students back to in-person learning.

Dean's educational career includes roles as Principal of Highland Elementary School, Middle School Principal at the American School of Barcelona, and Assistant Principal at various middle schools. Additionally, he has nine years of experience as a school counselor and began his career as a high school teacher in 1989. Dean expressed his enthusiasm for working with a team dedicated to students' success and staff empowerment.
