PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo's conservation team cares for more than 10,000 springsnails, spanning three species—the San Bernardino springsnail, the Huachuca springsnail and the Quitobaquito tryonia—while all known Arizona springsnail species are in decline due to groundwater depletion, predation by invasive species such as crayfish, habitat destruction by elk and cattle and wildfire impacts on stream quality and flooding.

Mentor Leaders Produce Mentor Leaders, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2017, was highlighted by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office in its Community Spotlight Series as a Violence Prevention Grant recipient for using academia, professional development and life-skills training to teach youths ages 10 to 24 to become mentorship leaders, with Vincent Garrett, known to the youth as Mr. G., a West Philadelphia native described as an educator and youth leader, saying every young person is passing on something to the next generation, and the district attorney’s office says the DAO has awarded community-based organizations more than $7.5 million in violence prevention grants since 2021.
