Maricopa, AZ – At approximately 8:15 pm on Friday, September 19, 2025, the Maricopa Police Department and the Maricopa Fire/Medical Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on John Wayne Parkway (SR347) just south of Sonoran Desert Parkway. According to reports, one vehicle entered the opposite lanes of travel and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Both drivers sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and required extrication from their vehicles. One driver died at the scene, and the other was transported to the hospital; their condition is currently unknown. No other occupants were present in the vehicles.

Due to the severity of the accident and the fatality, the Pinal County Vehicular Crimes Unit has joined the investigation. Southbound lanes of John Wayne Parkway at Sonoran Desert Parkway remain closed, and northbound lanes are restricted to one lane. Authorities expect these closures to last several hours.
