**Donald Trump to Be Inaugurated as 45th U.S. President**

Today marks Inauguration Day, with President-Elect Donald Trump scheduled to take the oath of office at 12:00 p.m. Eastern time (9:00 a.m. Pacific time). The event will take place on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

This will be the 74th presidential inauguration in U.S. history. The tradition began on April 30, 1789, when George Washington became the nation’s first president. Since then, 45 individuals have taken the oath.

Historically, Inauguration Day was not always held on January 20. Until 1937, the ceremony took place in March. However, the Twentieth Amendment, passed in 1932, moved the date to January 20. If January 20 falls on a Sunday, the event is moved to January 21 instead.

Today’s event exemplifies the long-standing tradition of peaceful transitions of power in the United States, a hallmark of American democracy. Fun historical note: John F. Kennedy, inaugurated in 1961, was the last U.S. president to mark the occasion wearing a traditional top hat.
