**Nampa Man Arrested for Used Car Sales Fraud**

A 20-year-old man from Nampa was arrested on September 17, 2024, following an investigation into used car sales fraud. Nampa Police executed a search warrant at 6:00 a.m. in the 4000 block of E. Syracuse St. after receiving reports about a suspect allegedly rolling back a used car's odometer by over 65,000 miles and listing the vehicle on Facebook Marketplace at a higher price due to the altered mileage.

The Nampa Police Property Crimes Unit collaborated with the Idaho Transportation Department to verify discrepancies in the vehicle identification number (V.I.N.) and odometer readings, leading to the issuance of the search warrant. During the search, officers found another vehicle on the property with an altered odometer.

The suspect, Hamit Kaan Tekel, was arrested without incident and faces two felony charges of Computer Crime under Idaho Code I18-2202(1). This law pertains to individuals who knowingly use a computer system to commit fraud or theft.

Police Corporal Joel Woodward commented on the investigation, expressing confidence that the arrest would deter similar fraudulent activities in the community. He also advised potential used car buyers to utilize resources like CarFax to check mileage and maintenance records to avoid scams.
