LAPD investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Southeast Division incident.
Staff Report / LAXlocal.org
The Los Angeles Police Department's Force Investigation Division is currently looking into an Officer-Involved Shooting that took place in the Southeast Division on July 3, 2024. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. when officers attempted to pull over a white sedan at Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue. The suspect, armed with a fully automatic weapon, unexpectedly fired at the officers before they could even exit their police vehicle. In response, one officer fired back, leading to the shooting.
Following the exchange, the suspect fled in the vehicle, and it is unclear if they were hit by the gunfire. The officers sustained minor injuries from glass fragments caused by the suspect's bullets hitting the police car. One officer received two graze wounds to their head. Both officers were taken to a local hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department, treated for their injuries, and released the next day.
Investigators found several rifle casings from the suspect's weapon at the scene. Fortunately, no other officers or civilians were harmed during the incident. The Force Investigation Division and Robbery Homicide Division are actively working on the case to gather more information and understand the events that unfolded.
