Spartanburg Police and NHTSA work to prevent July 4 crashes.

Reviewed by Valencia Perez / Spartanburglocal.org

The Spartanburg Police Department is teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to raise awareness about impaired driving this Fourth of July. Over the period from 2018 to 2022, there were a total of 2,228 fatal traffic collisions during the holiday. In 2022 alone, 487 people died in motor vehicle crashes during the Fourth of July celebration. The police department emphasizes that many of these tragic deaths could have been avoided if motorists refrained from driving while impaired. This year, the focus is on education and enforcing laws to prevent impaired driving and ensure a safer holiday for everyone.
