Syracuse Fire Department responds to building explosion, saves multiple victims.

Reviewed by Katherine Murphy / syracuselocal.org

Last Tuesday at 4:06 p.m., the Syracuse Fire Department responded to a building explosion and structure fire. They found a two-story home that had collapsed due to the explosion, with multiple critically injured victims in the front of the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters immediately began assisting the injured, moving them to safety and providing patient care. Over 60 Syracuse firefighters, along with Syracuse Police, AMR Ambulance Crews, and other first responders, worked for over seven hours to ensure no one else was trapped in the debris.

A total of 12 victims were treated for injuries, some of them critical. Investigators determined that the cause of the explosion was a natural gas line in the basement of the home.

The successful outcome of this challenging incident was due to the collaborative efforts of many emergency services and public safety partners. The Syracuse Fire Department expressed gratitude towards all those who played a role in helping during this difficult day.
